The fall leaves are dwindling and winter is slowly setting in. I usually expect snow and cold soon. I also generally don't give up hope of a white Christmas until the 24th itself. And that's despite the fact that I can't even remember the last time we had a truly Norwegian winter wonderland at this time of year.
Hello temperature fluctuations!
So we exchange gifts at 18 degrees (and yes, that's in Germany), complain about the warm temperatures and still enjoy the sun's rays on our faces. Then, all of a sudden, winter sets in. It gets cold, wet and uncomfortable. Skis are unpacked, heaters are turned up and we oscillate between freezing cold and cozy warmth. But one thing in particular suffers from these irregular temperatures: our skin.

Winter skin, rough patches - the right care
So while we catch snowflakes, marvel at icicles and slide around on white slopes, our skin is often offended. Dry, flaky patches, cracked backs of hands and itchy legs. No, our skin really doesn't like this time of year.
So what can you do to properly Moisturize your skin in winter? The first step is definitely to know and understand your skin's needs. Your reactions are actually just cries for help and a desire for attention.
So the question is, why does my skin have such a hard time in the cold? The skin is actually a pretty clever organ. It has its own protective barrier - an acid mantle that protects it from drying out, but also fends off external influences and bacteria. The prerequisite for this barrier is that our skin is healthy. That we eat a healthy diet, are relaxed and take enough care of ourselves. Most of the time, however, we don't take the time to do this! I catch myself doing it often enough. I have to do something quickly in the morning, PM and the day is already over.
But it is particularly important in winter that we give our body and skin the attention it so urgently needs. This is because the skin loses some of its protection in winter. It releases moisture into the dry air around it and its blood circulation decreases.
The cold causes the fine blood vessels in the skin to contract and our body sends all of its blood to the important organs in order to continue to supply them optimally. And it is precisely this supply that is then lacking elsewhere: oxygen and essential nutrients are no longer transported as easily and your skin suffers. Irritation, redness and tightness are not far away.
In addition, the skin's own sebum and oil production is also reduced at temperatures below 8 degrees. This means less moisture, fewer fats and fewer nutrients. Really anything but rosy times (except for our cheeks).
We already know the reasons for stressed winter skin. But what can you actually do to keep your skin healthy and well cared for during the cold season?
Winter skin 101: Protect your skin barrier
As with your clothes in winter, you can also use the onion method for your care. Simply layer different products - from thin to thick. Important: If you are planning to be outside in the cold for a really long time, then reduce moisturizers and gels as much as possible. At sub-zero temperatures, moisture can freeze in the outer layers of the skin and cause additional damage to your skin.
So weigh up - what are you going to do? Are you going on a snow hike in freezing temperatures or are you just going for a walk? Maybe you'll stay at home next to the cozy heater?

Winter care: your routine for soft skin
Daily routine
Step 1: cleanser
Start by cleansing your face. If you want to Cleanse your face AM with more than just water, you can use the Cleansing Oil . Pay particular attention to mild cleansing products - they should not foam and should be soap-like. This also dries out the skin. Our Cleansing Oil is a great alternative and nourishes the skin at the same time! Step 2: Tone
The Calendula toner has a calming effect on irritated winter skin. It moisturizes and removes any remaining dirt from the skin. It also strengthens your skin's protective barrier so that valuable moisture can be stored and does not dry out so quickly due to the heating air.
Step 3: serum concentrate
After the cleanser , you can apply a very thin layer of moisturizing serum. For example our Hyaluronic Concentrate. Use it sparingly and never use it on its own. Beware of the risk of frost! To successfully strengthen your skin's protective barrier, use the Ceramides serum.
Step 4: Day cream & oil
I would then advise you to use a lipid moisturizer. Pure oils and moisturizing creams are best suited for this. They close the protective barrier and thus prevent water loss from the skin. For example, you can use the Hyaluron cream remedy apply and last but not least a few drops Jojoba Oil leave-on.
Step 5: sun screen
Sun exposure is often underestimated in winter. Even on cloudy days, our skin can make good use of the additional SPF . After all, UV radiation is one of the main factors in skin ageing. And who wants that?
Evening routine
Step 1: cleanser
PM , a thorough cleanser is one of the most important things. City smog, sweat and make-up prevent your skin from breathing. So free your face from the impurities of everyday life. Just as important as in the morning: it must be a mild cleanser that doesn't make your skin bloated but still cleanses it thoroughly. We have developed our Cleansing Oil. This keeps the skin's protective barrier intact, which is particularly important on cold winter days to retain nutrients and moisture.
Step 2: peeling
The AHA peeling gently removes dead skin cells and moisturizes your skin down to the deep layers. Be careful during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as AHA should not be used then. In all other cases, use slowly. This means using the AHA peeling only 1-2 times a week at first and gradually increasing it when your skin responds well to it.
Step 3: Concentrate/ serum
And then: moisture, moisture, moisture! The constant temperatures during the night help you to rebalance your skin's water balance. The Hyaluronic Concentrate penetrates deep into the skin layers thanks to the different molecule sizes and supplies it with moisture.
Step 4: Night care

You can also simplify the application by mixing a few drops of rosehip seed oil with your night cream on the back of your hand and then applying together.
For in between
Our Hemp Oil Mask soothes your skin and relieves inflammation after a day in the cold. It also gives your skin a concentrated boost of moisture and helps your skin's protective barrier to regenerate. For a few relaxing minutes for your skin and your soul.

Bocycare in winter
And of course, skincare goes far beyond our face. Because the rest of our body needs at least as much attention. Here, in addition to the body lotionto natural and valuable oils. Jojoba, Almondand Argan Oil are ideal for this. My special tip: spray your skin with the Aloe Vera Spray before applying an oil or body lotion mixed with oil. If you apply the oils to damp skin, they are absorbed more quickly and do not leave a greasy film.
Why oils on damp skin, you ask? As the saying goes: like dissolves in like. And the mixture of water and oil corresponds exactly to the composition of the outer skin layer. Our own fats and water in the form of sweat. So in order to absorb the fatty acids of the oils well, your skin needs the combination with water.
I personally love the Jojoba Oil and it is a perfect addition to the body lotion. I mix the oil with a little water in my hands and then apply it to my body. Because applying the oil directly to wet skin after a shower is too much water for me personally.
I also take care not to shower too hot. This is gentle on the skin and protects it from additional irritation and dehydration. A little tip: Towards the end of the shower, rinse off cold from head to toe! This stimulates blood circulation in the skin, wakes you up and also strengthens the immune system. It couldn't be better!
In exceptional situations, in the mountains and in extremely cold temperatures, a few additional rules apply: Cover as much skin as possible with warm clothing! Areas of the body that are inevitably exposed to the cold and sunlight should be protected with high SPF 50+ and occlusive (covering) water-free! creams. For example, you can use baby balm for example. This is not only good for Protect delicate baby skin from wind and weather, but also adult skin.
Incorporate these care routines into your daily routine. Take time for yourself. See it as something you do for yourself! Give yourself, your body and your skin the attention they deserve. Don't expect miracles (because it is and always will be winter), but small habits can not only strengthen your skin, but also brighten your mood on days when the sun goes down far too quickly.
